OTA’s Thriving Kids Campaign 2026

As the Thriving Kids Initiative rolls out across the country, we need every politician to understand the risks of a system that currently lacks consistency and explicit inclusion of the occupational therapy workforce.

We know occupational therapists are central to the delivery of successful early-intervention supports, and the majority of our workforce currently operates in private practice, supporting thousands of children with disability. Currently, there is no explicit inclusion of private practice providers under the Thriving Kids Initiatve.

Please take a minute now to send a message to your local state and Federal MPs to support our call the rollout of the Thriving Kids Initiative that protects children’s outcomes, support families and explicitly recognises the essential role of occupational therapists across all settings, including private practice.

I am writing as a local constituent and a supporter of Occupational Therapy Australia’s advocacy to ensure the Thriving Kids Initiative is implemented safely, consistently and in the best interests of children and their families.

I believe every child deserves access to the right support at the right time, and that starts with a system that protects continuity of care and recognises the essential role of occupational therapists across all settings.

I am concerned that the current Thriving Kids model does not explicitly include OTs, and provides no clear role for private practice providers. In many regional, rural and remote communities, private practice OTs are the primary or only available service for children with disability. Without explicit inclusion, children risk losing access to their current therapists.

I support OTA’s call for:
